Castries, June 02, 2025 – Energyze Holdings Inc, (EHI) – an energy services company, has signed a historic and groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Castries Constituencies Council (CCC) to support the transition of Castries into a sustainable and energy efficient city.
The agreement will support the CCC in its efforts to meet three sustainable development goals of ‘affordable and clean energy’ (7), ‘sustainable cities and communities’ (11) and ‘partnerships for the goals’ (17).
For the Minister of Local Government, the agreement fulfils a long-held commitment.
“This is an initiative that is very close to my heart. Whatever it is we can do to make the city sustainable goes down well with me and I’m hoping we reap benefits with that MOU and that it can be replicated throughout the length and breadth of Saint Lucia.”
Castries Mayor, Her Worship Geraldine Lendor-Gabriel, says the MOU represents the CCC's commitment to implementing sustainable practices.
Energyze General Manager David Leonce says his company exists to transform the energy sector in Saint Lucia. The energy services company aims to apply innovative energy solutions to residential and commercial customers like the CCC to help them reduce operating costs through better management and the conservation of energy.
“There are great opportunities for us to collaborate, really driving reduction in greenhouse gas emissions for the city, providing valuable benefits to the city in terms of reducing energy usage and reducing operating costs and we are here to provide technical support to help the city look at its energy use and apply energy efficiency, innovative energy technology, to help them reduce their energy usage but also help them achieve their sustainable goals.”
The new agreement has received support from Chief Energy and Public Utilities Officer (Ag) Kurt Inglis. He says it is a groundbreaking and innovative approach to pursuing a sustainable and energy efficient city of Castries.
“Government has long sustained initiatives and incentives for energy efficiency and renewable energy and sustainability for the country at large. However, it is the stakeholders that have to take action in pursuing these initiatives and the city of Castries has taken a bold step to pursue energy efficiency through this Memorandum of Understanding with Energyze and I think this should be looked at as a framework or an example if you will for other stakeholders in Saint Lucia to pursue energy efficiency and sustainability in all their practices throughout their business and to the benefit of their patrons, customers and the general public of Saint Lucia.”
The landmark MOU was signed between Energyze and the CCC on Tuesday, May 20.
